Weightmans invests in Birmingham office to support top talent

We are delighted to have partnered with Weightmans at its Temple Row offices in Birmingham to create a more agile, collaborative workspace that supports its people in delivering quality service to clients.

A leading national law firm, Weightmans has seven offices across the UK and employs more than 1,300 people. We were awarded the contract earlier in the year following our successful design and delivery of the firm’s new 18,000 sq ft Manchester office at No. 1 Spinningfields, the city’s tallest commercial building.

We provided a range of services, including workplace consultancy, interior design, fit-out, furnishing and filing support. The team was briefed to create a working environment that supports agile working and, consolidating the firm’s space from three floors to two, supports a more collaborative culture and encourages an integrated, ‘one team’ ethos.

We reimagined the 14,000 sq ft ground floor area to create a vibrant space that supports staff and facilitates a more agile way of working – a task that requires considerably more thought for a law firm, taking into account appropriate security and privacy measures to protect confidential and sensitive information.

Several extensive surveys of legal industry employees, from lawyers through to paralegals and support staff, have highlighted the desire for flexible working, which consistently tops the list of most-wanted benefits, above a higher salary and additional holidays. Those law firms that are tuned into this, like Weightmans, are working hard to provide space that retains top talent and provides employees with the flexibility that is so highly prized.

Our Account Director, Tim Crane, said: “Weightmans is a leading national law firm with a focus on its people, the success of which is evidenced by its top employer accolade for the eleventh year running. The firm was very clear on the fact that the primary objective of this project was to support its people – we’ve designed and delivered a space that does just that.

“The space we delivered in Birmingham was created with the same ethos and thinking behind the firm’s Manchester office; a workspace that supports employees and is a pleasant, productive environment.”

Richard Osborn, Partner and Head of Weightmans Midlands Region, said: “As a firm, we’re focused on two things – our people and our clients. To continue delivering an outstanding service to our clients, our people must always remain central to our strategy. Supporting our people is the single reason for undertaking this project – to create an environment where our team can enjoy spending time, that supports their wellbeing and which facilitates a more flexible, agile way of working that equips us well for the future.”
