Weightmans invests in Birmingham office to support top talent

We’re pleased to announce that we’ve partnered with Weightmans for the second time to create a more agile, collaborative workspace that supports its people and retains top talent.

A leading national law firm, Weightmans has seven offices across the UK and employs more than 1,300 people. This project in Birmingham follows the successful design and delivery of the firm’s new 18,000 sq. ft. Manchester office at No. 1 Spinningfields, the city’s tallest commercial building.

Delivering a range of services, from workplace consultancy, to interior design, fit out and furnishing, we were briefed to create a working environment that supports agile working and, consolidating the firm’s space from three floors to two, a more collaborative culture, encouraging an integrated, ‘one team’ ethos.

We reimagined the 14,000 sq. ft. ground floor area to create a vibrant space that facilitates a more agile way of working – a task that requires more thought for a law firm, considering appropriate security and privacy measures to protect confidential and sensitive information.

Several extensive surveys of legal industry employees, from lawyers through to paralegals and support staff, have highlighted the desire for flexible working, which consistently tops the list of most-wanted benefits, above a higher salary and additional holidays. Those law firms that are tuned into this, like Weightmans, are working hard to provide space that retains top talent and provides employees with the flexibility that is so highly prized.

Our Account Director, Tim Crane, said: “Weightmans is a leading national law firm with a focus on its people, the success of which is evidenced by its top employer accolade for the tenth year running. The firm was very clear on the fact that the primary objective of this project was to support its people – we’ve designed and delivered a space that does just that.

“Weightmans’ Manchester office has really set the standard for the whole of the firm – the space we delivered in Birmingham was created with the same ethos and thinking; a workspace that supports employees and is a pleasant, productive environment.”

Richard Osborn, Partner and Head of Weightmans’ Midlands Region, said: “As a firm, we’re focused on two things – our people and our clients. To continue delivering an outstanding service to our clients, our people must always remain central to our strategy. Better supporting our people is the single reason for undertaking this project – to create an environment where our team can enjoy spending time, that supports their wellbeing and which facilitates a more flexible, agile way of working that equips us well for the future.”
