A performance-enhancing HQ for adidas

To be the best sports company in the world, it’s important adidas’ workplaces reflect their mission and are the best environments for their teams.

TSK’s brief and whole ethos behind creating adidas’ new UK headquarters was to put employees at the heart, energise and inspire the 460-strong team and improve their performance and wellbeing.

Appointed in late 2017, we worked closely with the adidas team over ten months to co-create a workplace that would encourage communication, and collaboration, drive innovation and boost productivity.

In a campus style setting, the new UK HQ is based on their global “My Arena” design concept, centred around a team area and surrounded by various settings to provide flexibility for employees to work from.

Large open-plan spaces over two floors with adjustable sit-stand, bookable desks support agile working. Creative corners, with high tables and writeable walls are interspersed, along with unique enclaves for informal meetings, including a ‘training’ themed enclave, a ‘running,’ a ‘football’ and a ‘women’s’ enclave.

For more focused work, there are various sized meeting rooms, a series of ‘chat’ boxes for phone calls and a large library located away from the team areas.

Designed using the brand’s white, black and grey colour palette with subtle, brand-aligned details in certain areas, the new headquarters includes themed lounges providing different environments for employees and visitors to meet.  An urban lounge is on the ground floor, with a sustainable lounge made of furniture from recycled materials, whilst on the first floor, teams can meet in the nature lounge, with a biophilic design to enhance wellbeing. 

To encourage collaboration, the new workplace also boasts multiple break out areas, kitchens and a canteen and social area, called the Market Place, taking inspiration from Herzogenaurach, adidas headquarters in Germany.

As a global organisation embracing agile working, improved technology was key to this project. To allow for ease of international communication, save travel costs and provide a seamless experience for both employees and customers, Skype is fully intergrated.

We completed the 71,655 square foot project in phases to cause minimal disruption to the business, with the final phases completed in October 2018. We worked with adidas employees throughout the entire process, with “Design Influencers” appointed from every level of the business, to ensure the space is fully designed around the people using it every day.
