Supporting a culture of autonomy and enterprise

JT International Business Services (JTI) wanted a workplace that would enhance their strong company culture of openness, autonomy and enterprise, and support their employees to work freely, responsibly and at their best. We were asked to “do something you’ve never seen before; create an office that smiles to people, that is eco-friendly and is award-winning.”

With all this in mind, we created a vibrant yet calming space that fosters creativity, free-thinking and collaboration. We implemented Activity Based Working with spaces for employees to collaborate, focus, learn and socialise, including tech-enabled meeting areas, huddle spaces, focus rooms and The Hive - a social space for employees to meet together, eat together and relax.

To promote positive wellbeing, we created The Zen Zone, a quiet place for relaxation, mindfulness and meditation. It features biophilic design and swinging chairs for employees to retreat, reflect and recharge while they enjoy inspiring panoramic views overlooking MediaCity.

All aspects of the design and fit out were carefully selected to create a truly environmentally friendly workplace, achieving a prestigious SKA Gold rating, the highest class of the RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) environmental assessment and benchmark.

Not long after the team moved into their new space, JTI was independently recognised as one of the world’s most effective workplaces, achieving a Leesman+ award. Following a pre and post survey key marginal gains were highlighted across the business, including increases in the number of people stating their workplace:

  • Enabled them to work productively - increased by 21%

  • Was a place they were proud to bring visitors: +53%

  • Contributes to a sense of community: +37%

  • Was an enjoyable environment to work in: +32%
