We're kicking off our 2024 fundraising campaign as we mean to go on, with a 24-Hour Spinathon to raise funds for the David Cox Initiative! The entire TSK team are taking on the challenge at the end of the month, and here is everything you need to know about the big day...
In December 2019, we lost our friend and colleague David Cox, who passed suddenly following a heart attack whilst recuperating from a motorcycle accident. With the COVID pandemic following shortly after this devastating blow, our plans to create an event in his honour were put on hold.
So, we're aiming to make it right and honour his memory by raising £25k for the British Heart Foundation, between August 23 and July 24.
David was an avid cyclist and a man who relished a challenge. So, when our Wellbeing Team suggested a 24-Hour Spinathon, we knew we had to make this happen.
The big event will be held at our Manchester office on the 28th of February. We'll begin peddling at 12 pm and pushing through the night until we cross the finish line at 12 pm the next day.
We know this is a race you won't want to miss, so we’ll be hosting a live stream where you can tune in and join us in following the team's progress as they embark on this fantastic journey.
We’ll share more details about the live stream on our LinkedIn page over the coming weeks, so keep an eye out for updates!
Since we’re in the swing of setting ourselves challenges, we thought we’d add another to this event. Just to ramp things up a bit, we’ll be cycling the equivalent of Land’s End to John O’Groats (as the crow flies), which is 602.73 miles/970km in total.
Along the way, we’ll be handing out prizes as people cross key milestones of the journey, with additional awards for the furthest cycled and best dressed.
We’ll also keep you updated on LinkedIn throughout the event to let you know how far we are along the journey (so make sure you’re following us if you aren’t already).
As part of the David Cox Initiative, we've teamed up with the British Heart Foundation to become one of their fundraising partners for the year ahead. Throughout the year, we'll be hosting more events, raising money to fund the life-changing research they carry out.
The 24-hour Spinathon event neatly ties into the British Heart Foundation's Heart Month campaign, which asks people to “Go Red for Heart Month”. So, we're urging all our cyclists to promote the cause by wearing red wherever they can.
As this is one of the biggest events of the David Cox initiative so far, we've set a goal to raise £6,273—the equivalent of the distance we're hoping to travel over the 24 hours.
We're grateful for every donation, no matter how big or small! So, if you'd like to show your support for the team and contribute to the incredible work this charity does, you can donate here.
A huge thank you to everyone who has donated already; David would be proud to see the team's efforts and generosity given to such a fantastic cause.
We caught up with our CEO Iain Holden to hear his thoughts on the big day…
“David was a keen cyclist and regularly participated in cycling events such as Manchester-Blackpool and of course, Ironman. So what better way to remember him than hold our very own cycling challenge? It's going to be a brilliant day, and I'm looking forward to seeing so many of our team members getting involved. Good luck team and thank you to everyone who has donated so far!”
